Nellie McKay @ Canal Room

Nellie McKay performed a stunning set yesterday afternoon to open the Tribeca Film Festival’s Music Lounge, at The Canal Room.

The room was decked out with leather loveseats and the relatively silent audience created a truly intimate atmosphere for the gig.

Nellie’s setlist consisted mostly of songs from her brilliant Pretty Little Head which hopefully will see the light of day sometime soon! At last check, she was searching for an indie to pick it up after the Sony drop but now that she’s busy with the Threepenny Opera, who knows when the release date will be?

She was uncharacteristically “un”-chatty at the show.

However she did manage to throw in a jab about Alan Cumming, her Threepenny co-star, as well as the advertisers sponsoring the TFF event. Good job, Nellie!

Setlist:

Long & Lazy River
Real Life
*?
David
Toto Dies
*Mrs. Brown’s Daughter
Cupcake
*Broadway Melody
I Am Nothing
Columbia Is Bleeding
I Will Be There

(* indicates a random cover song she busted out)

Also, performing yesterday was Lisa Hannigan (the female vocalist who sings alongside Damien Rice) and Josh Ritter.
Both were highly entertaining and far exceeded my expectations!

Are you serious? Nellie McKay rated higher than Lisa Hannigan and Josh Ritter? Were you at that gig?! That is nuts… i would have put lisa first, josh second, everyone else after them and nellie mckay not even registering on my musical radar! The broadway thing just not my style i guess..
