When word broke earlier this afternoon that I’d have the opportunity catch an impromptu & acoustic Ryan Adams gig at a tiny SoHo bistro (with a capacity of just 50 people), I had no choice but to hop in a cab, brave the freezing rain and plant a spot up front. Today marks the release of Ryan’s latest opus, Cardinology, and his 8 song set (alongside The Cardinals) served as an unofficial celebration. Complete with random banter, countless requests and even post show phone calls (per the desires of some overzealous attendees), the event felt like a very early holiday gift. Enjoy a slew of photos below. Visit Ryan at his official site. Download a classic Ryan track at bottom of post. For another perspective (from 3 feet away), head on over to The Modern Age.

(Setlist) Born Into A Light. Evergreen. Fix It. Magick. Natural Ghost. If I Am A Stranger. Cherry Lane. Let Us Down Easy.

There is NO ONE more prolific, charismatic, eclectic, or hectic in the industry (and I’m a NICK CAVE fan)….If one more douche at that other blog says another unkind word about this guy or mentions their work schedule at McDonald’s: WARNING! I will force you to fellate Ryan for the privelege of living on the same planet as him, and then kick your f**kin teeth in..I flew up from Miami to wrap my record in NYC and although the Halloween show featured a heartsick, somewhat bummed Ryan, WHAT AN AMAZING, INSPIRING PERFORMANCE! Wish I had caught that smiling MR. ADAMS at the “secret” gig.. Great photographs, kids! XXOOXX!
Good Lord, I love this man!
