ST. VINCENT & PATTERN IS MOVEMENT @ WEBSTER HALL: A FAMILY REUNION

Last night felt like a family reunion at Webster Hall. Our good friends, Pattern Is Movement, were opening for their friends, and one of our favourite bands, St. Vincent whom had Daniel “Hartbreaker” from The Physics Of Meaning playing violin. With those guys on stage and the dozen or so writers, photographers, bloggers and musicians we knew on the floor, we couldn’t help but feel all warm and snugly amongst the thousand cheering fans. Well, that and the place was packed and we were shvitzing.

Pattern Is Movement put on one of the best shows I’ve seen by them of late. They debuted two new songs and Andrew beautifully sang a D’Angelo cover himself and Chris used to love when they were younger. And the new addition of having singer Andrew play the drums as well is mesmerizing.

St. Vincent is just adorable. Annie Clark looks like a Renaissance painting, like a little Botticelli angel. She can melt your heart with songs like ‘Marry Me’ and shock you with her dark dance beats like in ‘Marrow’. The crowd she drew last night was one of the most eclectic I’ve seen at the Hall. Young, old, gay, straight, hipster, bridge and tunnel, she had them all enraptured.
