8 QUESTIONS WITH: CLINIC

Enjoy my full exchange with Ade Blackburn in the feature below.

1. What are your most cherished albums of 2009?

Sun Araw - Heavy Deeds, Atlas Sound - Logos, Beak, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse & David Lynch - Dark Night…, Joker’s Daughter - The Last Laugh, Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest, Tom Waits - Glitter & Doom: Live.

2. What will 2010 bring for Clinic?

There’ll be a new melodic carnival-esque album. Jimmy Webb with a smile.

3. What are your three favorite songs to perform nowadays?

I’d say ‘Memories’, ‘Shopping Bag’ & ‘IPC Subeditors Dictate Our Youth’. All 3 have got some ridiculous elements and/or lyrics that are still a laugh to play.

4. I’m wondering if there’s any one facet of American culture that you thoroughly enjoy and/or makes you giggle endlessly.

I’m not sure. Maybe the business districts or the rivers.

5. What were your initial thoughts upon hearing The Arcade Fire’s cover of ‘Distortions’, back in the spring of 2007?

Flattering. I like the way they throw in quite off-the-cuff covers into their sets.

6. What’s your drink of choice?

Red wine. Sadly, I’m no expert. Sadder still, in reality, I’ll drink anything.

7. Are there any Liverpudlians that we should keep an eye out for?

Yes, Mugstar is great. Very krautrock/hawkwind, massive riffs. Also Cold Ones are a really good punk band. Their singer is a maniac in the best possible sense. We also like Hot Club De Paris.

8. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?

People often take us or the music as being quite sinister or dark when the main reason we make it is for people to dance & laugh at themselves (& us).

I can recommend the Chilean Merlot, only £4.99 at Tesco’s but don’t let the price put you off. It’s a real belter with subtle essences of plum, citrus and mahogony shavings.
Hurry though, the offer ends on November 24th.

I had a nice red wine last week made by JP Chenet. The wine was nice but I had to write a complaint about their bottles. The neck wasn’t straight. I couldn’t believe it !

    What is “Beak?”

Is that a band or album name?

It’s right after Atlas Sound - Logos.

Waiting... One of the things that gets under my skin is having to wait for a music download to finish. I usually end up playing something silly, like online bingo or some other flash game, while I'm trying to kill some time. It's an easy way to kill 10 minutes while waiting.
