Yesterday, I chatted with Warpaint‘s Jenny & Stelly! Our full exchange:
1. How would you describe your music in twenty words or less?
Deep sea curious creatures roaming the edges of the space time continuum.
2. What was the inspiration behind the video for ‘Stars’?
To be as much like children as possible, seeing how well we react in spontaneous situations. Always remaining genuine in all that we do.

3. Are there any LA based acts that we should keep an eye out for?
Moonrats. Rainbow Arabia. Dot Hacker. Weave. Andy Clockwise. Swahili Blonde. Afternoons. Hecuba. Many others. Look online! Hahah.
4. What are your three most cherished albums of 2009?
Fever Ray, Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion, Deerhunter – Rainwater Cassette Exchange.
5. Can you list a few dream collaborators?
Brian Eno. Robert Smith. Damo Suzuki. Tony Allen. Damon Albarn. Guy Piccioto. Beth Gibbons. Thom Yorke. Nigel Godrich. Etc etc etc.
6. Nearly every single article written about Warpaint mentions Cat Power. Are you tired or gratified by the comparison?
She’s wonderful, however, I feel like sonically, we are very different. But a flattering comparison, none the less!
7. What are your plans/goals for 2010?
Touring. Traveling, teasing, taunting, tripping, talking, laughing & dancing. Enjoying ourselves! Oh yeah – the album comes out early summer.
8. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?
We are not Cat Power’s side project. Hahahahahaha!

Of course it’s Stella ;)
I’m a bit disappointed in the LA based artists to keep an eye on, they’re simply mentioning all of their friends, nothing more. You don’t have to be someone’s friend to like their music or vice versa, and they’re just doing that, so it’s not interesting.
i think most of those LA bands they mention are pretty sweet and most people don’t know about them outside of LA.
this was fun to read….nothing wrong with naming your freinds……
