Earlier today, I chatted with SPW’s Justin Tranter. Our full exchange:
1. Can you offer any mid-winter fashion tips?
Yes, I’m really into nude. The color of 2010 is nude. Nude leather jackets, nude knits, nude cardigans, nude turtlenecks, nude scarves.
2. How insane is it to play theaters as GaGa’s opening act?
It’s amazing. Even though we’re not a pop act (we’re a filthy rock band with four guys on stage – no dancers or tracks), her audience has been perfect. GaGa’s very fashionable fans are thrilled to watch us!

3. What are SPW’s plans for 2010?
We’ll be on the road with GaGa for the entire year. We’ll be in Europe, Australia, Japan, other parts of Asia and back in North America. Our major label debut comes out in March. It’ll include three songs from our independently released album, We Love You, that have been re-mastered and sound fucking massive. It’ll also feature a bunch of new tunes.
4. Who are the greatest androgynous musicians of all time?
Grace Jones & The Eurythmics. Both beautifully blur gender lines.
5. What’s been your craziest fan encounter?
We’re so genuinely happy that people like us that nothing is ever too crazy. Notes on the tour bus, that’s all cool. In Vegas, while we were performing, I was changing (a bitch has got to work two looks), and all the kids were changing too! They all brought an extra outfit & that really altered the whole mood of the show. There have also been some great SPW tattoos. There’s nothing more flattering than seeing your likeness on someone else’s body.
6. Which cities have been most responsive to SPW?
NYC & LA but also a few random cities in the middle of the country. St. Louis has been unbelievable and Columbus is crazy. At our Midwest gigs, people don’t care that I’m wearing heels on stage, they’re there to hear the music.
7. What albums are you currently enjoying?
I love the new Miranda Lambert record. It’s so good. I’ve also been in a Led Zeppelin phase of late. I also think that Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 is fucking brilliant & magical. However, The Black Album is still my bible.
8. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?
I love all the rumors. I love all the misconceptions. The point of rock n roll is to get things wrong. People think that we’re a glam rock revival act. In reality, we’re kids of the ’90s – we grew up with Guns N Roses. We’re just glamorous!

Steve Jones of Jonesy’s Jukebox hosts Jonah Hill and the Duplass Brothers to discuss their upcoming film “Cyrus”. John C. Reilly plays John, a lonely divorcé who meets Molly, the woman of his dreams. It seems there is only room for one man in Molly’s life and her son, Cyrus, played by Jonah Hill, is not going to give up the top spot without a fight. John and Cyrus have met their match in this comical struggle for power written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass. May the best man win!
