Prior to last night’s sensational performance by The Magnetic Fields, the Canadian chanteuse won me over with her delicate, delightful and imaginative half hour set. Laura Barrett (of The Hidden Cameras) toyed around with her kalimba (an African thumb piano) for nearly every song all while showcasing her gorgeous vocal style – a truly winning combination. For one selection, she even tapped on a keyboard using only her feet! Quirky done right. Official TMS Rating: 9/10. Laura Barrett’s Victory Garden is out now.
