Last night, The National (accompanied by a brilliant horn section) debuted a bevy of tunes from their forthcoming album, High Violet, at Brooklyn’s most pristine venue. Upon initial introduction, High Violet maintains the morose sensuality of Boxer while harking back to the unabated vigor of Alligator. In other words, there’s a high probability that it will be instantly epic. TMS Rating: 10/10. Earlier this week, The National performed on Jimmy Fallon.

MP3: The National – Fake Empire

surprised there’s no mention how winedrunk matt was. i thought he was going to jab someone with the microphone stand.
this is very true ;)
no mistaken for strangers or abel :(
they did ‘abel’, read closely :)
no ‘mistaken for strangers’ though…
Jealous. x
But they played England! The two ‘studio white board’ pics on the high violet website suggested this wasn’t to be on the new album. But if they’ve played it here, that would suggest it’s taken on a different name???
Isn’t commenting on Mat being drunk on stage stating the obvious? He’s always drunk, I seem to remeber him saying in A skin, A night that he can’t do it in any other state…
I know if I were him I’d have to be drunk to deal with the emotional intensity of the music. Some of The National’s songs are almost too beautiful and raw..
