8 QUESTIONS WITH: COCOROSIE

Earlier today, I chatted with CocoRosie. Enjoy our full exchange below:

1. How did Argentinian culture help shape Grey Oceans?

WE ARE NOT DRAWN TO THE IMAGERY OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW. WE DRAW FROM OUR PAST AND FROM OUR FANTASIES. CHINA AND INDIA HAVE BEEN A SUBTLE INGREDIENT IN THIS RECORD.

2. What’s the inspiration behind the video for ‘Lemonade’?

THE DARK CRYSTAL.

3. Can you explain the cover art for Grey Oceans?

IN THIS MOMENT, WE WERE FASHIONING OURSELVES AFTER THE FAIRIES AND THE ELVES. IT’S A POST HUMAN VISION WHERE THE ELEMENTAL BEINGS RAVE IN THE FOREST.

4. How was it to work alongside Gael Rakotondrabe?

IT WAS A LUXURY. LIKE WORKING WITH LARGE BUNDLES OF THE FINEST SILK. LIKE JUMPING ON A HUGE BED. LIKE SWIMMING IN A CRYSTAL LAKE.

5. How would you describe the current state of pop music?

PATHETIC. SYNTHETIC. HEARTLESS.

6. What are you currently listening to?

THE ANDREWS SISTERS.

7. What are your plans & goals for the remainder of the year?

SWIMMING IN THE SEA. BEING IN MEXICO. TOURING THE USA. GOING TO JAPAN. GROWING MY HAIR.

8. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?

TOO MANY TO CARE. ONE HAS TO LET GO AND LISTEN ONLY TO THE GOSSIP OF ANGELS.

Wow! I only know the song “By Your Side” and I think it’s such a special sweet song. The answers to these 8 questions are so different than what I would expect that I kind of want to figure out what their deal is. Are they angry and jaded or more brilliantly spacey like Imogen Heap?

I guess my brain should stop trying to compartmentalize and just listen. :)

    Thanks,
    Allison
