8 QUESTIONS WITH: DELPHIC

Earlier today, I chatted with Delphic’s Matt Cocksedge. Our full exchange:

1. How would you describe Delphic in twenty words or less?

Ambi-dance. Post-dance. Electronic music with soul.

2. Are you excited for your first-ever US tour?

It’s unbelievable! In the UK, so much of our culture is your culture. A few hours ago, we realized that we were on Broadway. We passed Macy’s & Bloomingdale’s – they’re not just in films, they’re actual places!

3. Which city has been the most receptive to Delphic’s live show?

Tokyo blew me away. The crowds were brilliant, enthusiastic & appreciative.

4. Can you kindly list a few dream collaborators?

It’s really a minefield, isn’t it? Right now, we’re thinking about our second record and wondering if we should release an EP as well. I recently saw La Roux perform a melancholic version of ‘Bulletproof’ – it really showcased a different side of the song. La Roux writes great pop singles.

5. Are there any UK based acts that we should keep an ear out for?

Everything Everything. They’re from Manchester as well. We love them. There’s a vitality & curiosity to their songs that I absolutely love.

6. What are you currently listening to?

Caribou – Swim. The album has a great clash between uptempo & downtempo beats. I love that kind of production. The atmosphere created on the whole record is hauntingly beautiful. We’re also listening to a lot of old-school stuff. Carole King – Tapestry, The Rolling Stones – Exile On Main Street and The Beatles BBC anthology. Watching the latter is so inspiring.

7. What are your plans & goals for the remainder of 2010?

Loads of festivals all over the place (UK, Japan, Germany). It’s really exciting to enjoy the sunshine and not be stuck in dark venues.

8. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?

In the UK, we get a lot of new Order comparisons. It’s a strange one. We’re flattered yet we feel a bit boxed in. We can see the link but it’s a little bizarre. We’re taken aback by it. Music is such a subjective thing. It’s open to interpretation and individual opinion. Whatever people want to say about us, they can say. The important thing for us is to believe in ourselves, put all of our efforts into making a great sophomore album & to go from there.
