Rest in Peace, Ross

It’s with great saddness that we announce the death of a dear friend of this website and so many others, Ross Harman. Ross was a talented musician and song writer who for much of his musical career, was a partner to his best friend Teddy in the now retired The Gaskets. On his own, Ross was a wonderful artist and director who also worked own a side-project under the monkier, Ballpoint Pens.

It was in 2006 when I first met Ross and Teddy after their show at Pianos in NYC. Their music blew me away then and continues to every time I play it out at clubs or just alone, singing along in the car. Since that first night, The Gaskets have played two of this site’s anniversary parties and have become not only one of my favorite bands of all time, but the favorite band of countless friends and readers. Always kind and unassuming with a contagious energy on-stage, Ross was an inspiring force in this world and we’ll miss him, always.

This video was drawn and directed by Ross Harman for The Gaskets in 2007. The song is called ‘Left Hand.’ Ross is the first person you see.

I am Teddy’s Mom (the other half of the Gaskets) and “substitute Mom” to Ross. Our hearts are breaking with the loss of not only the very talented and gifted individual that Ross was but for those that knew him well… probably one of the most warm, kindhearted and sweet people you could ever come in contact with. He touched so many lives and will be missed by so many.

Ross was a member of the first class of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and he and Teddy embodied much of what makes it such a special place. Those of us who were a part of the ARGS Family (parents and teachers) came to know Ross as a sensitive, talented and kind young man. We loved him as if he were our own – and in fact is was ours……but for too short a time.

Ross will be missed….his life will not be for naught. His spirit lives on in the smiles, the kindnesses and love of those who know him.
