Coming out of Chicago are this self-styled “party-math” trio who recently (_cough_back in may_cough_) released their debut EP on the Big Scary Monsters label. This is some fun and funky stuff: precise and intricate, but with more definite pop stylings and melodies than your average noodly guitar workout. It’s entirely possible that they’re a little too clever in terms of their knowing and hyperbolic self-definition – but with Party Mathematics they’re certainly suggesting that there’s a lot of room for them to grow into themselves.
