The Music Slut approves of this new artwork for the cover of former Arab Strapper Aidan Moffat’s (or Aidan John Moffat as he’s styling himself) new LP 10 Short Songs for Modern Lovers.
Aidan John Moffat’s new mini LP, TEN SHORT SONGS FOR MODERN LOVERS, will be released on the 25th of October 2010. It has – surprise! – ten tracks in total, all of which fit onto two sides of a 45rpm 7” single. There is a reason for this, and it’s a rather underdeveloped theory about the modern consumer’s attention span and the decline of the album as artistic platform as the music industry becomes more focused on singles . . . but far more important than all that bollocks is the fact that it’s jolly good fun and surprisingly moving in parts. It makes you wonder whether all albums should be 9 minutes long. You can judge for yourself if you pre-order the record at Chemikal Underground now, and all online sales through the Chemikal shop come with a free 320kbps MP3 format too (and quite possibly a video if Aidan gets round to making it soon). As mentioned above, the 7” will be released on the last Monday in October, but the digital release won’t be out until November.
Tracks on the record are:
Side A
Number On My Hand
Less Than Three
Sort It Out
Mizzle
Whisper It
Side B
Buckfast Beauty
Roar
Buttoned
Twice
End Of The Night
Aside from the fact that anything from Moffat is bound to be ace and the fact that the whole 7″ experiment is kind of neat, I just really appreciate the idea of having a Side A and a Side B. I always preferred Side B on cassettes and LPs; there was a feeling that was the place where all the outlying, kind of sad, miserable and not quite good enough songs went. The kind of place where the freaks and weirdos songs went. Hmmm. Perhaps anthropomorphising songs like that isn’t a good idea.
Also, any song about Scotland’s other other national drink (after the uisge beatha and the irn-bru) can’t be bad.

It’s probably a sign of my immaturity that I’m amused that twitter and bit.ly have given this post the shortened URL http://bit.ly/awTeEt
