Premiere: ‘Primetime,’ The Lights Out

Boston band The Lights Out are about to launch their second album, Primetime, next month and have aptly chosen the date of 1/1/11 to do so (get it, 1 is a prime number). Here’s what Adam Ritchie, lead guitarist, has to say about the album:

Primetime is a theme record about the pursuit of fame: why we do it, what we gain and lose while we’re working toward it, how it can be earned or stolen, the business of building up and tearing down celebrity, and wondering what “making it” means in this day and age. It’s an album about what it’s like to be in a band today.”

As a preview of the album Primetime, we have the lead single ‘Primetime’ as an exclusive download to our readers… Is that confusing? Grab the mp3 and hear what lead singer Rishava Green has to say about the song after the jump

“Primetime” started as a song about our van, Tim. There’s a decal across the windshield that used to read, “PRIMETIME,” but we razor-bladed off all the letters except “IM TIM.” “I’m Tim,” get it? Then it sort of emerged that, hey, we’re shooting for primetime, we’re ready for primetime, we ARE primetime! Tim is the vehicle that gets us there, so the point of view evolved from being just about the van to being sung BY the van, to us. Tim speaks for all our loved ones, who sacrifice and support us in this ridiculous endeavor, reminding us how privileged we are to have them in our lives.” -Rishava Green, lead singer
