This past weekend, we headed to Williamsburg to see new Brit buzz band The Vaccines, who previously in the week had played to a sold-out crowd at The Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan. The much more compact Glasslands was filled to capacity, quite literally from floor to ceiling. When we walked in, the person at the door pleaded with us to try and squeeze through the crowd, away from the entranceway, which was threatening to be enveloped with patrons.
Taking the stage at about 1am, the young foursome ran through a set-list that included every song in their still small repertoire, including ‘Post Break-Up Sex,’ ‘All In White,’ and opener ‘Wreckin Bar.’ Their songs are set at the perfect pop time of roughly 2 minutes with glimmers of a bright Arctic Monkey’s like future… Then again, the buzz, the frenetic show, the youthful Englishness of it all does remind us of The Fratellis (RIP) first stop on these shores.
The Modern Age, Prefix Mag and We All Want Someone to Shout For were also there.
