Italian (via Canada for lead singer Jonathan Clancy) band A Classic Education have been skirting around the edges of the indie music scene since 2007 but with their first album all recorded and a brand new two month tour supporting British Sea Power, 2011 might just be their year. I’ve waited eighteen excruciatingly long months to catch Italy’s A Classic Education in the flesh. Thankfully, last night’s gig (their second-ever American performance) not only met my lofty expectations, it far surpassed them. A Classic Education’s live show is equally passionate, beautiful and enchanting. In fact, during their set I realized that the last time I felt such a rush while admiring a multi-instrumental ensemble dates back to the first time I saw Arcade Fire many years ago. Orchestral indie-pop fans, rejoice!
A Classic Education to the rescue. After a one-off opening slot for The Arcade Fire earlier this month, in addition to the highest praise from well-respected blogs such as: Six Eyes, MP3 Hugger, & Tangents, I had no choice but to give Italy’s ACE an open ear. Their sound is a sort of Built To Spill meets I’m From Barcelona meets Animal Collective hybrid, and I absolutely adore it. Learn more on the band here at their MySpace page.
