Finally, Something Worth Watching On MTV

Our faithful readers may remember us mentioning a little (well, actually, a huge, epic, motherf*cuking undertaking, but you know) travel movie called A Map For Saturday; created, written and starring Brook Silva-Braga. The film has aired around the world and, we’re happy to announce, it’s now America’s turn to watch. A Map For Saturday premieres tonight at 10pm under the guise of the MTV series, True Life. If you would like to see the entire movie, head to Brook’s site for a copy. We have one and let us tell you, it’s worth it just for the extras section – hilarious. You might also know Brook from his musician Q&A series he has partnered with us to do for his site, The Interview Point. The program is currently on hold while Brook travels through Africa on yet another adventure (you can read about his journey here). Check out some past episodes in the clips below:

A Map For Saturday: Attention Memphis

As promised, here is the information for this weekend’s Memphis International Film Festival featuring our favourite little film that could, A Map For Saturday: Sunday, 4:30pm. Tickets available at the theatre. Head to the documentary page for more info. Brook will be in Memphis all weekend and will be taking audience questions after the movie. As always, tell him Jen sent you.
Brook recently wrote a lovely article for Budget Travel, on your news stands now, about what it feels like to travel for a year and the effects of coming home. As I can well attest, coming home and settling back into life after time away feels… pretty indescribable. Like you have suddenly lost what it feels like to be yourself.

Cleveland Film Fest goers will have one last chance to see the film tomorrow, Saturday, at 9:30pm as due to popular demand, extra shows have been added. You can purchase tickets here.

Attention Cleveland Readers: Go See This Movie

Hellooooo Cleveland!

You are probably aware that you have a big international film festival going on right now. Well, one of the movies showing happens to be made by a very good friend of this site, Mr. Brook Silva-Braga. A Map For Saturday chronicles Brook’s adventures as he travelled around the world for all of 2005 (where one of the highlights was, he met me in Scotland, I am in the movie for a whopping 3 seconds).

The first showing is tonight at 7:15pm, sorry for the late notice. Brook will be there answering questions after the movie. He’s horribly cute and quite the cad not to mention his film is really endearing and enjoyable. If you go, make sure to say hi and tell him Jen sent you.

The movie is also showing at 2:15pm tomorrow and 3/22 at 7:15pm.

Attention All Musicians

Do you have a concert or a video that you’d like filmed by an Emmy winning director? The Music Slut may be able to help you out there. Email us for details. It doesn’t matter if you have a video idea or not, but being somewhere in the area between Philly and Boston might. Oh, and did I mention the cost? How does nothing sound?

While you are at it, you can go to the MySpace of said Emmy winning director to view the trailer of his new documentary on what it is really like to leave everything you know behind to travel around the world for a year. Play nice, and make him your MySpace friend.

A Map For Saturday

Hola my loyal sluts. I’m currently in Georgia visiting relatives, in a little town called Cumming (how appropriate) so I won’t be properly posting anything until when I get back next week. But I do want to let all of you know about something I got in my email yesterday:

A friend of mine, Brook, took a trip around the world last year and made a documentary about his travels called A Map For Saturday. I actually met him while he was travelling when he came to visit me in Scotland (that’s too long a story to post here). He just put up a rather fantastic website for the film where you can read a synopsis and view the amazing trailer. Also, you can read all about his adventures here on the blog he kept during his journey. Your mistress of music is in the film for an entire 3 seconds so I’d DEFINITELY recommend checking it out…as soon as it gets a distributor.

Ok, I’m off to finish getting hammered and watch Layer Cake. Ciao.
