Make Music New York and Music Slut Jen are searching for a few good musicians to volunteer at a Musical Petting Zoo they are organizing in Times Square for the third annual Make Music New York Day on June 21st.
Here’s some more info:

Now in its third year, Make Music New York, “the largest music event ever to grace Gotham” (Metro New York), is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on Sunday, June 21st, the first day of summer. MMNY takes place simultaneously with similar festivities in more than 327 cities around the world – a global celebration of music making.
From 11 in the morning till 10 at night, over 3000 musicians of all ages, creeds, and musical persuasions – from hip hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock – perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens. From high school bands to marquee names, MMNY is open to anyone who wants to take part, enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend.
This year, as part of the citywide festival, MMNY will close Times Square’s Music Row (W. 48th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues) for a Musical Instrument Petting Zoo. Music stores on the block, including Sam Ash and Manny’s Music, will set up drum sets, keyboards, guitars, woodwinds, brass, and strings on the street, for passersby to listen to, learn about and test drive. Throughout the day, professional musicians will stop by to give short lessons and master classes for young and amateur musicians.
Promotional partners for the “Petting Zoo” include the Times Square Alliance, Sam Ash, Metro NY, Time Out New York, The NYC Department Of Education and VH1 Save The Music.
Are you a musician or music teacher whom wants to give back a bit and teach a lesson for an hour or more on the 21st? Besides it being a really fun day, the foot traffic will be great for handing out fliers about your teaching services or band. Interested? Get in touch today: JKellas@afterthejumpfest.com!
