Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things – fronted by former Libertines Pete Doherty and Carl Barat respectively – have teamed up with Love Music Hate Racism to ask fans to vote for any party but the far-right BNP.
A posting on Dirty Pretty Things’ website reads: “The BNP currently have 49 local council seats around the UK, and are standing over 750 candidates in the elections. “Low turnout has often been a major factor in BNP local election wins, and sometimes just a handful of votes can make all the difference.”*

Via ContactMusic: Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY has hailed his recent collaboration with hip-hop star MIKE SKINNER and his group THE STREETS “better than rehab”. The BABYSHAMBLES frontman worked with Skinner on drugs track PRANGIN’ OUT earlier this year (06), and was so inspired by the subject he even added a frank verse of his own. Doherty brands the combined effort one of the most therapeutic experiences of his life, coming after court convictions for drug possession and several stints in an exclusive London rehab centre. He says, “It was better drugs counselling than a month in The Priory. It’s probably true. “And it was a cracking tune as well.

Pete Doherty, 26, and two men from Dundee – aged 18 and 19 – were detained by police in Birmingham on Monday evening.
West Midlands Police said three men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a car, reportedly stolen in London, and allegedly possessing class A drugs.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said all three had been released on police bail “pending further enquiries”.
Mr Doherty’s band recently resumed a tour which was rescheduled after the singer was held in custody on drugs charges.
Babyshambles had to cancel dates in Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle and London following Mr Doherty’s arrest in January.
Health promise
The singer subsequently received a 12-month community service order after pleading guilty to seven charges of drug possession.
Mr Doherty was held in Pentonville Prison in north London for 13 nights in January and sentenced at Ealing Magistrates Court earlier this month.
He was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation programme and warned he could face prison if he broke his community service order.
He subsequently vowed to “start a drug-free life” and told Channel 4 News that he was “not that much of a junkie anyway”.
Normally this would be non-news, but – 2 guys from Dundee! That’s superb, it almost makes this look like a local effort!
