DAVY JONES @ TIMES SQUARE ARTS CENTER: LIVE TO TELL

Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone. Last night, I took a major journey away from home turf by attending a performance by former Monkee and teen heartthrob, Davy Jones. In between a series of dirty & fat jokes (which were admittedly quite hilarious) as well as rips on long forgotten ’60s icons, the senior crooner soldiered on for an impressive career spanning two hour set. One particularly alarming caveat for yours truly was Davy’s uncanny resemblance to Morrissey. Let me explain! While Mr. Jones & Mozzer share absolutely nothing in common (in any arena), there’s something about Davy’s on stage charisma that draws a perverse amount of admiration from his uber loyal fanbase. Sound familiar? Quite foolishly this took me by total surprise. The situation became even more manic as Davy stayed around for a brief meet & greet session. All in all, an evening I won’t forget anytime soon! Highlights of the gig would have to be (expectedly) Davy’s takes on ‘Daydream Believer’ & ‘I’m A Believer’. Visit Davy Jones on MySpace.
