Here’s what to expect, courtesy of Amazon: *Elliott Smith’s intensely intimate music and open-hearted, Beatlesque pop songs have left a deep mark on a generation of fans and musicians in the wake of his tragic death in 2003. In Autumn de Wilde’s remarkable photographs and conversations with close friends, family, and musicians he inspired, this is the first and only portrait of the beloved and troubled singer/songwriter by those who knew him well. Complementing de Wilde’s riveting, personal images are ephemera, handwritten lyrics, and revealing talks with Smith’s inner circle, many speaking here for the first time. Also included are a foreword by Beck Hansen and Chris Walla, and a live CD of unreleased solo acoustic performances.
Autumn de Wilde directed Elliott’s video for “Son of Sam” and created the packaging for his album Figure 8; the cover image of him in front of a wall in L.A. led to the site becoming a spontaneous memorial for the singer after his death. She has also worked with Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie, the Raconteurs, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jenny Lewis, Fiona Apple, and others. She lives in Los Angeles. Beck Hansen has collaborated with de Wilde for many years, most recently on photographs and videos for his album The Information. Chris Walla is a guitarist for the band Death Cab for Cutie and has worked as a producer with numerous bands.*

Via Billboard: *Elliott Smith is tentatively scheduled for a November release by Chronicle Books. The book gathers over 200 pages of De Wilde’s many photos of Elliott, as well as handwritten lyrics and interviews with Smith’s sister Ashley Welch and friends Ben Gibbard, Sam Coomes (of Quasi and Smith’s old band Heatmiser), Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), and Jon Brion.
Proceeds from the book will be donated to the SIMS Foundation, which provides affordable mental health care to musicians, and Portland-based homeless youth advocacy group Outside In. The book will also include a five-song CD featuring previously unreleased live acoustic tracks recorded by Smith at L.A.’s Largo club. The CD features a trio of Smith fan favorites– Either/Or’s “Angeles” and “Between the Bars”, and “Clementine” from his self-titled LP– as well as covers of Quasi’s “Clouds” and Hank Williams Jr.’s “All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down”.*
MP3: Elliott Smith – No Name #4
Back in college, when I was still using Winamp (oh come on, you remember it too!), I had an Elliott Smith cover of ‘Because’ on my playlist. I adored his rendition of the Beatles track; it was tender and sweet, something about it sparkled. For those curious, it was featured on the American Beauty soundtrack.
Well, it’s been a handful of years since I’ve heard that cover but thanks to the always terrific, The Rawking Refuses To Stop!, ALL of Elliott’s Beatles covers can now be found in one convenient blog post! Fantastic! I think my favorite of the bunch would have to be ‘Blackbird’. Check out the complete list of MP3s here!
MP3: Elliott Smith – Thirteen
“New Moon”, a collection of 24 Elliott Smith B-sides/rarities/songs that probably should have never been introduced to the public (a la most of Jeff Buckley’s Sketches For My Sweetheart, The Drunk) will be released as a double disc/vinyl set on May 8th via Kill Rock Stars.
The material was recorded throughout 1995-1997 and includes an early version of ‘Miss Misery’ and the never-before-heard song ‘Either/Or’, which of course, is the title of Elliott’s 3rd album. Exciting!
Portions of sales of the album will go to Outside In, a Portland-based social service.
Tracklist for New Moon:
Disc 1:
“Angel in the Snow”/”Talking to Mary”/”High Times”/”New Monkey”/”Looking Over My Shoulder”/”Going Nowhere”/”Riot Coming”/”All Cleaned Out”/”First Timer”/”Go By”/”Miss Misery” (early version)/”Thirteen”
Disc 2:
“Georgia Georgia”/”Whatever (Folk Song In C)”/”Big Decision”/”Placeholder”/”New Disaster”/”Seen How Things Are Hard”/”Fear City”/”Either/Or”/”Pretty Mary K” (other version)/”Almost Over”/”See You Later”/”Half Right”
*Incidentally, there’s no update on Zack Braff’s rumored role portraying Elliott in the biopic, but we’re just aching to find out if it’s true!

No official word yet but the forum posters over at At Ease are buzzin’ with rumors of Mr. Garden State portraying the life of Mr. Misery.
I can’t find any confirmation on IMDB, Elliott Smith fansites or any other page for that matter. Hmm…
I think Zach would do a great job with the role. Guilty pleasure or not, I LOVED Garden State when it was released 3 years back (however, the film was unsuccessful in turning me a diehard Shins fan, just a casual one).
Let’s hope there’s some truth to all this!
