Last night was Exit Clov’s first NYC headlining gig, and the room was packed.

DC’s favorite 5-piece (and Music Slut Holiday Party extraordinaires) ran through selections from all of their past and current EPs, including a ridiculously random and fanastic cover of Rod Stewart’s ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?’. The 50-minute set was by far the strongest I’ve seen the band, to date, and I can only imagine what’s in store for them in 2007. They can and probably will become THE buzz band in a few months time. Elbo, watch out!

Oh and if you were wondering where the title of this post came from… the image below is clearly duct taped across Exit Clov’s front drum. Love it!

Upon the advice of Buddha (good friend and commenter extraordinaire), I headed over to The Mercury Lounge last night to check out DC’s finest, Exit Clov, a band I’ve only heard about but never actually heard.

The quintet really blew me away. According to the band’s MySpace page, they site the following bands under influences: metric, blondie, pulp, blur, moving units, arcade fire, stars, bartok & le tigre. Somehow, if you can believe it, they sort of sound like all of those bands melded together with a taste of The Rapture (perhaps it was the cowbell).

The set spanned the full range of their catalog, which consists mostly of EPs. The turnout for a Monday night was rather spectactular (more than half filled for a non-local, unsigned band, not bad!) and the band even closed the set with a great cover of ‘Call Me’. Their record release party will be held at the Rock N Roll Hotel in DC, on October 20th. If you’re in the neighborhood, I highly recommend your attendance!
