Review: Pitchfork Music Festival Day 2

On the day with seemingly the least star power, there were some CLUTCH performances.

At 1pm, performances began with two choices. On the main stage, vocal-looping composer Julianna Barwick, likely the festival’s most quiet show. On the smallest stage (Blue) across the park, local party monster Chrissy Murderbot, a dj specializing in bass-heavy, hybrid-style party cuts. He was accompanied by MC Zulu, freestyling and hyping. Why in THE WORLD these two acts were booked to play simultaneously is a mystery. You can imagine the difficulty Barwick had in putting on her delicate show.

Review: Helplessness Blues, Fleet Foxes

There’s no reason to adjust the formula if it’s already great. Fleet Foxes do what they do, and they do the fuck out of it; the whisper-to-thunder transitions, and of course the zillion-part harmonies…they’re always there. They’re always moving. If you like that, then you like Fleet Foxes, every single song. If you are looking for a lot of style-gear shifting, then you are going to be disappointed, every time.

Ahead of Fleet Foxes upcoming release, Helplessness Blues (May 3rd), comes a new video for single ‘Grown Ocean.’

Sing and song-writer Robin Pecknold explains the title of the new album:

It’s called Helplessness Blues for a number of reasons. One, it’s kind of a funny title. Secondly, one of the prevailing themes of the album is the struggle between who you are and who you want to be or who you want to end up being, and how sometimes you are the only thing getting in the way of that. That idea shows up in a number of the songs.


Fleet Foxes Announce Album/Tour/New Song

What starts off a little awkwardly, soon melts into a lush, harmonious debut song from Fleet Foxes’ new album of the same title, ‘Helplessness Blues,’ out May 3rd on Sub Pop. The album will feature 12 tracks and be supported by an extensive tour that will see the band traverse America then cross the pond for a handful of European dates.
