The always delightful Garbage frontwoman, Shirley Manson, joined Gwen Stefani on stage at LA’s Gibson Ampitheater this weekend for an impromptu duet of Gwen’s single ‘Wonderful Life’. If you recall, Garbage and No Doubt toured together in ’02 while the former was promoting BeautifulGarbage, and latter was pushing Rock Steady. Minus the overstated carcass, Shirley Manson is looking quite fabulous, I must say.
Shirley on her decision to get involved with the cause and the ad: “When PETA approached me about this particular campaign, I was really honored to be asked, and I felt like I had a chance to add my voice to the dissent against the way animals can be treated all over the world by all persons.”

It’s been a little while since I’ve written anything about Garbage. While the band JUST returned from a year-and-a-half hiatus (hallelujah!), Garbage found time during the break to gather all their singles to date into one pretty little package titled, Absolute Garbage. The best-of will be available in stores next week and here’s the tracklist:
Vow/Queer/Only Happy When It Rains/Stupid Girl/Milk/#1 Crush/Push It/I Think I’m Paranoid/Special/When I Grow Up/You Look So Fine/The World Is Not Enough/Cherry Lips/Shut Your Mouth/Why Do You Love Me/Bleed Like Me/It’s All Over But The Crying
We were promised a new tune on this release but as you can see, there isn’t one (perhaps a secret track?). Also of note, after checking Garbage’s Wiki page, I found it rather shocking that the group’s most successful single thru present, is ‘Stupid Girl’! That track got to #4 on the UK charts and #2 on the US Modern Rock charts all the way back in ’96!
Billboard reports: Butch Vig has confirmed that there may be new Garbage material in 2007. “Despite the layoff, the group has been sharing song ideas via the Internet in recent months and is hoping to record a few them in March. “We need to sit down in a room and play them and get them complete,” Vig says.
Butch has also stated that he has been working with Shirley Manson on tracks for her forthcoming solo album, due for release later this year. Vig has also written a couple of songs with frontwoman Shirley Manson for her in-progress solo album, but adds, “she has worked with seven or eight different people, just to see what the chemistry is like.
It took awhile for her to get up to speed. She hasn’t played me anything yet, but I’ve heard the songs are great.”
Uncut reports: Garbage, the Shirley Manson led 90’s grunge-techno group, have confirmed a new single, to be released in March. The new track title is yet to be confirmed but will precede a greatest hits compilation “Absolute Garbage” out on the 19th of the same month.
Led by the iconic figure of Manson, Garbage have sold 12 million albums worldwide.
Back when I was 14, I used to dance around to the self-titled debut and listen to it obsessively with my friends. I had a stunning poster in my room right next my bed.
Version 2.0 came out and I was in heaven again. I wanted to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing just for you.
Beautifulgarbage came out and the world dismissed you, but not me.
The 9:30 Club show back in 2002 was a religious experience for me. Shirley, you sang, “Cherry Lips” and “Push It” directly to me (I was front row center) and I shivered. You even sang “You Look So Fine” per my request.
I’ve seen Garbage many many times live and I am still sort of heartbroken at the news that they are probably throwing in the towel.
Here’s a fantastic shot from their last tour (ever?), from the Hammerstein Ballroom show which was, of course, spectacular.
And the accompanying setlist.
