This past weekend, we headed to Williamsburg to see new Brit buzz band The Vaccines, who previously in the week had played to a sold-out crowd at The Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan. The much more compact Glasslands was filled to capacity, quite literally from floor to ceiling. When we walked in, the person at the door pleaded with us to try and squeeze through the crowd, away from the entranceway, which was threatening to be enveloped with patrons. (Read the article)
Having missed the entirety of their August residency at Pianos (hangs head in shame), I was beyond eager to check out the Cambridge based buzz act prior to their inevitable dive into the deep sea of hype. Having released one of my favorite EPs of the past 12 months (Chunk Of Change), I expected nothing short of brilliance at last night’s midnight mini gig. That’s exactly what I got. Storming through six manic tracks, Passion Pit’s 25 minute set showed precociousness, precision & supreme promise. This week, Passion Pit was listed within BBC’s Sound Of 2009 longlist. The band’s forthcoming North American trek starts on January 22nd in Montreal. Watch their clip for ‘Sleepyhead’ here. Visit Passion Pit on MySpace. MP3 at bottom of post.
Official statement: *Hey this Brooke from the GlassLands. I am very sorry people were disappointed. I want everyone to know that we gave out 80 wristbands for each show instead of the promised 100 that was purely a choice I made not the band or management. With crew, guest list for friends and family and a new huge stage built out in the middle of the room I thought that was all we could fit in the small space. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt. It was not a malicious choice just one made out of concern for safety.
Looking back we could of fit maybe 15 more people, I made a mistake and I’m sorry. The yeah yeah yeahs played 2 free shows for fans and that is a really cool thing to do. We try to do our best but we are not some mean venue owners just people trying run an art space. I’m really sorry for those of you who did not get in but I assure you of the number of bands we gave out it was not 40 per show. I hope you don’t hold this against us and come back in the future to paint or listen to music. All the best Brooke Baxter* (thanks for the heads up, Product Shop NYC)
