The bulk of Youth Novels, a brand new track, a swipe at Lady GaGa & a parade of covers (Lil Wayne, Kings Of Leon, The Shirelles) = 60 minutes of pure heaven! Anotherterrific gig from the multi-talented Swedish chanteuse.

As a last minute Saturday evening decision, I decided to check out an evening of comedy, literature & music as presented by McSweeney’s, Smith Mag & The Rumpus. The 2+ hour event featured readings and giggles by all of the following talents: Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, Amy Tan, Anthony Swofford, Jessica Anthony, James Hannaham, Stephen Elliott. However, my most cherished sections were highlighted by mini-performances from Amanda Palmer & Nada Surf frontman, Matthew Caws. Amanda’s 2 song set included a brand new ditty (focusing on her dismay of a yuppie family purchasing her childhood house) and her stellar cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’. Matthew Caws was fortunate enough to squeeze in four songs. My fave of the bunch would surely be his charming take on Let Go‘s opening track, ‘Blizzard Of Seventy Seven’. Sometimes an artist’s vocal talents are so mesmerizing, so breathtaking, so electric that you’re left in a stoic state. Such was the case with last night’s rousing 55 minute set from London native, Adele. Focusing on her debut LP, 19, while juggling a selection of covers (most notably The Coral’s 2002 single, ‘Dreaming Of You’), Adele’s fire effortlessly ignited the capacity crowd. A handful of photos, the setlist & an MP3 of ‘Hometown Glory’ below.
(Setlist) Right As Rain. Melt My Heart To Stone. Daydreamer. Dreaming Of You. Cold Shoulder. First Love. Make You Feel My Love. Tired. Hometown Glory.
(Encore) Crazy For You. Fool That I Am. Chasing Pavements.
Once every seven hundred days, Denmark’s Junior Senior takes New York City by storm and then disappears for another two-year span. Last night marked the duo (complete with backing band and vocalists!)’s first visit since 2005′s remarkable Mercury Lounge gig. The day could not have come any sooner for a JS mega-fan such as myself.
There are a few variables you can almost always count on at a Junior Senior show – silly dancing, infectious tunes, and huge smiles planted on all faces within the venue. Last night we were treated to all of that plus a guest appearance by Le Tigre’s JD Samson!
JD came out to sing her part in ‘Can I Get Get Get’, in addition to hopping around the stage during the closing encore of D-D-Don’t Stop The Beat‘s ‘White Trash’.
Last night’s set was a no fuss run-though of the best tracks from Junior Senior’s debut LP as well as their sophomore effort, Hey Hey My My Yo Yo, complete with one jolly new track, ‘Trust Tissue’. Here’s hoping their next visit will come sooner than 2009. Enjoy some more photos, the complete setlist an old-school Junior Senior MP3 below.
