James Blunt & Johnny Marr Respond To ‘In Rainbows’

James (Friggin’) Blunt: “I definitely think there is value in music. I don’t think they should devalue it. I’ve got to pay a band, a producer & a mixer. I don’t know how I’d necessarily pay them if I sold my albums for 1p. I’d have to work it out, but maybe they know how this works in practice.”

Johnny Marr: “I think it’s a really fantastic idea because it puts the responsibility back on people’s own consciences and deals with people as grown ups… Everyone knows you can get your music for free, so let’s see if you really want to show the band your appreciation.”

Both quotes courtesy of Radiohead fan site, At Ease Web. In related news, the current estimated sales tally for the LP exceeds 1.2 million! I guess the experiment worked.

James Blunt RUNS OVER Overzealous Fan!

Yikes!

James Blunt is apparently, a force to be reckoned with! Or, probably just a shitty driver.

WENN reports: British singer/songwriter James Blunt was caught up in a car accident after attending a pre-Oscars party early yesterday morning. The ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer and his model girlfriend Petra Nemkova were leaving the party at Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd’s home when the accident happened, leaving an unidentified man injured.

Blunt was not hurt and it’s still unclear what role he played in the accident. As WENN went to press, Los Angeles police could only confirm that Blunt was involved in an accident “in which a man’s foot was run over”.

David Gray On James Blunt: Staggering Nonsense!

Right on!

I Figured It Out!

OK, so…I was listening to Damien Rice’s lovely, brilliant and mesmerizing debut, O yesterday and when ‘Cannonball’ popped on. Immediately I thought of that f*ing James Blunt song.

How did I never realize before how much James Blunt rips off Damien Rice? Has anyone else noticed this?

We all know he will NEVER have the grace and vocal inflection that Damien possesses, and his attempt is quite embarrassing when you listen to the two tracks side by side, one after another.

I just can’t believe I didn’t see/hear it sooner!

In related news, Damien Rice (alongside tour partner, Fiona Apple) will be at Summerstage tonight. We wanna hear your thoughts on his new tracks if you make it out! I’m also keeping my fingers crossed for no thunderstorms. I only want the best for you.

I’d put the songs side by side for you, but there’s no reason you should have to bear ‘You’re Beautiful’ any more than you already have. So, here’s some Damien for you.

The Powter/Blunt/Geiger Complex

What should I call it?
Post-Mayer syndrome?
Singer-Songwriter nauseau?
Pretty BOYS make graves?

I can’t stand this latest trend of male singer-songwriters. And all of them have top 5 songs!

What the hell? I guess I’ll never understand mainsteam America’s musical taste.

Now let’s get started with Mr. Blunt who I will admit to not hating as much as the others. Maybe because he’s British and semi-good looking (although a little monkey-like, no?)… Either way, Chris Martin does and will always do it better than you. So, stop. David Gray wants his signature sound back by the way. Way to take something and run with it. You thief!!

Daniel Powter. I hate you and your ‘Bad Day’ crap song. I’m happy to report that MetaCritic proves that you are awful and hopefully you will go away just as quickly as you entered my world. Oh, and you misspelled your last name.

Ok, now to the underage members of Pretty Boys Make Graves. Teddy Geiger. I think someone went to the nearest suburban mall, plucked you out of Pacific Sunwear and gave you a makeover. You then met with the same hairdresser that the lead guy from All American Rejects goes to and before you knew it, you had a record deal. I’d love to see you in 5 years when you release your angsty I-hate-what-the-music-industry-did-to-me indie record. Maybe then I’ll have some interest.

Who do/what trend do YOU hate in pop music today?

While you think about it… here’s some singer-songwriters that I LOVE and some of their best tracks:

Elliott Smith – Say Yes
Sufjan Stevens – Chicago (live)
Feist – Mushaboom (remix)

Why Ya Gotta Hate?

Question: I’ve now watched three episodes of Love Monkey and I see nothing wrong with this show. It’s funny, it’s cute and it’s perfect after Scrubs. What is the problem people? Oh, and Ivana Milicevic is in it, and she’s hot. Hot and smart. I admit that Judy Greer is in it though and she will forever annoy the shit out of me.

Tonight’s episode was another light, Ed in New York episode which featured the singer “Wayne” making a music video. Ed (Tom Cavanagh, whatever) saves the day by firing Wayne’s video director (who wanted to make a dire Rebel Without a Cause video, hello! Two words: Paula Abdul) and instead directs it himself. “Kinda hot mostly because he can trace his family back to 995AD and served as a peace keeper in Kosovo”, James Blunt made a guest appearance at the end of the episode and in the beginning, Ed is at Arlene’s Grocery begging for sound equipment.

In other James Blunt news (this is just for my friend Sea), he was on Jimmy Kimmel last night and for someone who carried the Queen Mum’s coffin, looked awfully nervous. Surprisingly he performed “You’re Beautiful”, a fucking brilliant song if you ask me, but shouldn’t there be another single by now? Like “High” which I downloaded for free off of itunes in October? That one is pretty good too.

*Update: KT Tunstall on Conan tonight! Sorry for the late news.
