I heart the McCarren Pool Party! Despite it being insanely hot and the sets being about half an hour late, I still managed to have a lot of fun- though it wasn’t without spurts of boredom waiting around.

Hi all! Have a good weekend? About a thousand of you made it out to McCarren Park (in spite of a non-functioning L train, a slow-as-all-hell/rancid G train and sweltering heat) for the JL/Pretty Girls Make Graves show yesterday afternoon.
The Bon Savants opened the show in style but your sluts were too busy distracted by soy dogs and a vicious game of dodgeball to give the band the proper review they deserve. Sorry guys.
Anyway, Jason. The last time I saw him at Other Music I was convinced it’d be the last time I’d ever see him… at least see him perform Grandaddy songs! Well, I was wrong. Not only did he just finish 2 nights @ Joe’s Pub, he came out to Greenpoint for a great set in the park. His set was pretty similar to the OM gig. Here’s the official setlist, but he didn’t stick to it. In fact, much of the middle part was omitted & replaced by ‘Lost On Yer Merry Way’. I didn’t complain.
Just before he hit the stage with a couple buddies toying with background effects and vocals (it gave it a more Grandaddy feel than the in-store), some chick was taking multiple shots of the group. I snuck in right next to her for a single photo and Jason decided to give me this sad face. I didn’t mean to screw up your picture, lady! As you can see the 2 people on the right are still smiling for the other photo. Ha!
Guess I didn’t catch the final show after all…

Well, Jason from Grandaddy, at least.
Other Music was packed to the brim last night for a special intimate acoustic set from Grandpa himself.
Jason stormed through a 35-minute set which featured mostly Fambly tracks. “Summer..It’s Gone” and “Disconnecty” (yousendit) sounded fantastic, but it was the show-closing “The Group Who Couldn’t Say” which got everybody ooh-ing. Perhaps an appropriate finale.
Throughout the set, the crowd was extremely well-behaved and Jason was so very humble. Also of note, out of the 75 people or so jam packed into the record shop, i would say about 70 of them were guys! Do women really hate Grandaddy that much? I know Jen does and a few other female friends of mine completely dislike the band.
Interesting.
The only other time I saw a ratio of men to women that skewed was when I saw Spritiualized in Philly. My friend Megan was literally the only girl in a room that held 1000+ people. Not kidding! Odd.
Regardless of who was at the show, it was sad that it was the last one we’ll ever see.
Grandaddy, you will be missed.
