Out now via her sandbag store on mp3 and available at her upcoming tour dates is KT’s latest, The Scarlet Tulip EP. From the sounds of the limited previews available on the store page, it sounds a little like Tunstall has moved a bit more towards her earlier, folkier sound (and away from the “nature techno” of Tiger Suit). It sounds like fun, and I have to say that I seem to be predisposed to like anything that can include a song titled “Shanty of the Whale”.
Not content with getting (Tiger) Suited up for a North American tour, TMS’ favourite St Andrean songsmith is getting ready to share the love with everyone who can’t make it along to her current set of dates. Later this month KT will be performing at London’s HMV Forum, and the performance on the 8th March will be recorded and made available for sale via Sandbag. CD and Digital pre-orders for the gig are being taken, and they’ll also be available for purchase on the night.
You have to hand it to Miss Tunstall, who’s shown a pretty savvy approach to maximising the revenue from her recorded work. As well as the three studio records (four if you count both versions of Eye to the Telescope with their differing performances of “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”), there’s been 2006’s KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza and 2007’s Have Yourself a Very KT Christmas/The KT Tunstall Holiday Collection (with its unforgettable version of “Mele Kalikimaka (Christmas in Hawaii)” and its forgettable version of “Fairytale of New York”). That’s in addition to the various flavours of live EPs which have made their way into the world via iTunes. Say what you like about KT, but the lady knows how to get her work out there.
Lucky North Americanites! TMS fave KT Tunstall is taking her Tiger Suit out on the road in April, visiting a whole bunch of exciting places. It’s a long way from the student’s union in St Andrews, eh KT!
Tickets will be going on sale this weekend, and apparently there’s also the prospect of further dates to be announced… click through for the dates and a KT bootleg.
For KT Tunstall’s video for the single ‘Glamour Puss,’ off her new album Tiger Suit, she reached out to her fans to help collaborate for its creation. Entries from all over the world were submitted over YouTube to form the music track for the song while KT’s voice was kept intact. The result is something very unique, a captivating slice of KT fans and music fans in general, singing backing vocals in bedrooms, pounding tiny fingers drums and playing flutes made from carrots.
P.S.: Check out the girl with the long brown hair in the right hand corner at 1:11. I think she might be my long lost twin.
October 5th saw KT releasing her Tiger Suit upon the world. The Fife singer’s 3rd LP (if you aren’t counting KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza) has a lot of weight to bear: can Tunstall maintain the critical momentum that began with Eye to the Telescope and that she held on to with Drastic Fantastic, even if her 2nd record didn’t find favour with every reviewer?
This is our second KT Tunstall post in a week, it’s no secret we’re fans around here, so it is with a bit of a lump in our throat we say that the pint sized Scot’s first single ‘Fade Like a Shadow’ from her third solo album, Tiger Suit, is a slow burn. The song starts off predictable and even a bit boring. It doesn’t break any barriers and the much touted ‘dance beat’ isn’t as infectious as it should be. That being said, 2 minutes and 20 seconds into listening, we suddenly found ourselves paying attention when right after the bridge, the beat kicks in full force and suddenly out shines that repeating, rhythmic KT we first fell in love with- just with a glossier, studio sheen.
Five years ago, we began this blog with an entry entitled ‘Suddenly We See.’ Back then, we were two music loving students stuck in the music wilderness of St. Andrews, Scotland with the only live shows we had easy access to relegated to whatever the student union chose to book each term. Lucky for us, one of those acts was local girl, KT Tunstall. Together, Skye and I saw her play in the union with only a handful of other people and ever since then, through platinum albums, world-wide tours and Grammy nominations, she has been our wee Fife lass who made good.
KT Tunstall’s new album Tiger Suit will be released on Virgin Records on October 5th. KT is calling the music on the new album, “Nature Techno.” with a blending of organic instrumentation and dance beats. And in support of the album, KT is headed on a North American tour beginning on Halloween in Portland, OR and ending at Terminal 5 in New York City on December 1st.
