LCD Soundsystem’s Final Live Show

One of my greatest concert memories is seeing LCD Soundsystem at The Bowery Ballroom in New York four years ago so it is with significant groaning that we announce the end of the groups’ touring and a final, blow-out show on April 2nd at Madison Square Garden.

The end of touring, what does this mean? A very careful James Murphy has said of this announcement that he intends to release music as LCD Sounsystem in the future but right now, as this group, he will no longer be touring. This leaves Murphy free to perform in other capacities, such as the inevitable indie supergroup I’m sure he’ll one day join.

Z100 JINGLE BALL @ MADISON SQUARE GARDEN: FOR MY ENTERTAINMENT

As a teen growing up in Brooklyn, I always had a strong desire to attend the radio concert of the season. For one reason or another, my dreams were never fulfilled at any point during the mid-’90s. Fast-forward fifteen or so years & Z100‘s format has changed drastically. However, that didn’t stop me from accepting an invitation to cover this year’s shindig within a matter of seconds. Friday night’s press room (benefiting Food Bank For New York City) featured appearances by: Kris Allen, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Justin Bieber, Pitbull, Boys Like Girls, Jay Sean, Allison Iraheta, The Fray & Leighton Meester just to name a few. Over the course of the evening, I embraced my guilty pleasures while receiving the opportunity to ask Justin Bieber to name his favorite album of 2009 (Jay Z’s Blueprint 3) & inquire about Ke$ha’s fashion sense (‘I dig through the garbage’). Ha! I wouldn’t have traded the experience in for anything (except maybe a coffee date with Moz). All shots by Santiago Felipe.

Coldplay @ MSG: Technicolor Shadows

Last night Jen & I were fortunate enough to catch the first ever American gig supporting Coldplay’s spectacular senior release, Viva La Vida. While the evening’s career spanning set served as a trial run for their upcoming international mega tour, the 80 minute show also hinted at what’s in store for their stage presentation. Included in the latter group was ample butterfly shaped confetti, six large globes featuring live video & corresponding imagery, a U shaped walkway and a host of laser beaming lights. Music Slut pinnacles: a tender take on ‘Trouble’, a trio of forgotten yet recovered via ad lib lyrics during ‘Fix You’ & a phenomenal denouement showcasing ‘Lovers In Japan’. Setlist, photos & MP3 below.

(Setlist) Life In Technicolor. Violet Hill. Clocks. In My Place. Viva La Vida. Chinese Sleep Chant. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face. 42. Square One. Trouble. Lost. Strawberry Swing. Yellow. Death Will Never Conquer. Fix You. Lovers In Japan.
