Hey baby, I’m a lahhv zombie

The wonderful Letters of Note blog (bookmark it now!) has unearthed some correspondence between Morrissey and pen-pal Robert Mackie in the early 80s, prior to the formation of The Smiths.

I’ve got loads of books, more books than waxings. I’m dead intellectual like. Do you like books? I’ll have those written in brail ready for you.

Letters of Note: Accept me for what I am: completely unacceptable.

As with pretty much anything LoN posts, it’s utterly fascinating (especially when Moz offers to tape a couple of records for his mate: doesn’t he know that HOME TAPING IS KILLING MUSIC?).

There’s even some hints at future-Morrissey’s predilection for saying silly things about whole groups of people!

Oh well. We still love him.

MORRISSEY APOLOGIZES FOR NEW B-SIDES COMPILATION

Today’s message reads: *I am sorry that Swords was such a meek disaster. It was proposed and accepted as a budget priced CD yet emerged everywhere as the most expensive CD in the racks. It was poorly distributed and didn’t stand a chance and ranks as the lowest chart position I’ve ever encountered. I remain steadfastly proud of Years Of Refusal, which along with You Are The Quarry and Ringleader Of The Tormentors are my life’s peaks. These three will allow me to die in peace. I am no longer in the thrall of anything.*
