NINE INCH NAILS @ WEBSTER HALL: DOWNWARD SPIRAL

Yup, the band performed their classic album in its entirety. And it was amazing. Truly. Seeing such loved musicians in front of their hugest fans, many of whom came from afar to see the show, was a real joy to behold. And of course seeing “Closer,” “Hurt,” and “Head Like a Hole” as a person who grew of age in the 90’s was incredible.

The crowd waiting for NIN

The process to get into Webster Music Hall was a bit arduous, waiting on line at 4:30pm for a wristband, then joining another line to get into the venue, but over all it was run very well. Just as what happened at Bowery the night before, there was a group here who slept out overnight to secure a close spot. I chose a corner near the bar on the right, the room with a/c because as expected, the venue was ridiculously hot. I was covered in sweat after the show and unfortunately, most of it was not mine. Disgusting. The venue management eventually realized that it might not be the safest of conditions and began to hand out waters. Perhaps if Mr. Reznor had spoken more than a few words, he would have mentioned the heat just as Clipse did a few weeks before. The front man was pouring sweat.

NINE INCH NAILS ANNOUNCE INTIMATE FINAL TOUR

Trent Reznor just released this statement: *Getting right to the point, we’re going to play a handful of shows in NYC, Chicago and LA starting August 22nd. They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises. Upon reflection, the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn’t feel right to end NIN that way. An offer to headline V-Fest in Toronto (being announced soon) set the idea in motion to play some FUN shows to end this up with. If we can get it together we’ll film these shows, too. In NYC we’ll be playing Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5. In Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom. In LA we’ll be at The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda, The Palladium and The Echoplex. These should be cool, unusual and unique shows and I hope you come out - this is it. So far, The Horrors will be joining us for some shows in NYC, Mew will be with us at other shows in NYC, Chicago and LA, and perhaps more. Details and ticket info will be announced shortly, so check back. Thanks, Trent*

Trent Reznor: Coming To A TV Screen Near You

NME reports: *Nine Inch Nails are reportedly getting ready to turn their album ‘Year Zero’ in a television programme. The futuristic show is said to centre around a time when the US is ruled by a right wing, religious dictatorship, reflecting the record’s themes.

Trent Reznor said: “We’ve got a producer on board and have met with writers. We’re about to pitch it to the network, so we’re a couple of weeks away from meeting all of the main people, and we’ll see what happens.” According to Blabbermouth, Reznor said he was also interested in turning the project into a film.*

Trent Reznor Hates The Cameras

Guess we won’t be seeing Trent on the cover of Us Weekly anytime soon. That is, unless he starts dating Lily Allen. Ha! ContactMusic reports on the latest quote from Mr. NIN himself.

“Life in front of the cameras has no appeal to me whatsoever. I can understand that if your career is one that relies on that, if you’re an actor, or a type of actor I should say, or a type of ‘musician’ that ego needs to be fuelled by thinking that that’s the way they want to portray themselves. But I have no personal interest in that. It plays into everything that’s wrong with music and art right now.”

Nine Inch Nails’ latest opus, Year Zero, will be available to purchase next week, internationally.

NIN Go T&A

Confused? Let me explain. We just got our hands on Nine Inch Nails’ new clip for ‘Survivalism’, the first single from Trent and the boys’ new album, Year Zero. Musically, the track could have easily fit on their last LP, Without Teeth, which I surprisingly, truly adored. Thumbs up on that end.

As for the video itself, to ‘Survivalism’… well, the clip is a voyeur’s wet dream. The video serves as a recording of Trent’s neighbors and the activities that go on inside their apartments. While Trent is rocking out with the the rest of the Nails in his respective flat, other apartments in the complex feature ample boobage, creepy vacancies (a la The Ring) and a wild round of gay sex. This clip is definitely NSFW! I repeat, NOT SAFE FOR WORK. However, enjoy (if you can)!

Trent Reznor’s Riding Win Butler’s Coattails

Hmm, seems like Trent and his fellow Nails have been strongly influenced by The Arcade Fire’s recent media blitz to get the word out about Neon Bible. Product Shop is reporting that there are not one, but various ’secret’ websites out there, all giving little snippets of info about Nine Inch Nails upcoming release, Year Zero.

If you recall, before you downloaded the leaked version of Neon Bible, Arcade Fire set up NeonBible.com complete with song lyrics, live videos, a flashing neon bible (har har) and various other tomfoolery.

Not only that, but Trent has set up a HOTLINE (sound familiar?) giving scattered album info, song samples and generally creating a buzz around the project. For those curious, the # is 310-295-1040. Dial away!

Want to hear some of the new NIN tracks? I suggest you pay a visit to The Hype Machine ASAP, as a few songs from Year Zero have already found their way to the web. Year Zero will be out in the US on April 17th. Neon Bible’s official release is on March 6th.

Waiting... One of the things that gets under my skin is having to wait for a music download to finish. I usually end up playing something silly, like online bingo or some other flash game, while I'm trying to kill some time. It's an easy way to kill 10 minutes while waiting.
