Noel Gallagher Hearts Johnny Marr

Noel shares his thoughts on the former Smiths guitarist/current Modest Mouse guitarist, Johnny Marr, with 7 Ages Of Rock.

“I remember seeing The Smiths on Top Of The Pops, and I don’t mean this in a sycophantic way, but I wanted to be Johnny Marr.

“He had the Brian Jones haircut, the turtleneck, and the big red semi-acoustic guitar and he was cool as fuck.”

Still is Noel, still is.

Noel Gallagher Considers Purchasing A Football Stadium

Oh geez… Here’s the story via NME.

*Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has said he is thinking of buying the football team he supports, Manchester City. The club were involved in takeover talks with former prime minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra, though that deal has run into trouble after it was reported that some of his assets have been frozen at home while a awaiting a court ruling.

Now Gallagher has joked he might be able to get his boyhood club on the cheap.

“We haven’t got a manager, we’ve not sold any season tickets, brilliant!” complained the guitarist, reports the Daily Star. He then suggested that him and M-People founder Mike Pickering – who now works for record label Sony BMG – could buy their favourite team.

“I’m thinking of mounting a hostile takeover – me and Mike Pickering,” declared Gallagher. “I reckon we could scrape together about £400,000 in cash and I reckon we would get it for that.”*

Scissor Sisters & Noel Gallagher Hug It Out

For those out of the loop, Noel Gallagher (and his eternally growing mouth) had some rather unpleasant words for the Scissor Sisters when he was asked in a recent interview what he thought of their music and their fans. Rather than holding a grudge, Scissor frontlady Ana Matronic approached Noel at a gig last week and here’s how it went down, via Metro:

“We share the same security company, so when I heard they were hanging out backstage I marched straight up to Noel, pinched him on the cheek and gave him a big hug.

If someone says something bad about Scissor Sisters I don’t engage them in an argument but try to kill them with kindness and make them love me. Noel referred to me as a ‘top bird’ to a mutual acquaintance. He was very nice, as was Liam.”

Catching Up On The Gallaghers

1) Bloc Party calls Oasis ‘overrated’ and claim that the brothers made ‘stupidity hip’.

2) I hate to admit it but Noel did a fine fine job covering The Smiths classic ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ a few days ago in Moscow.

3) Noel wants to become the next British Prime Minister.

4) Noel covered ‘All You Need Is Love’ with Paul Weller at London’s Royal Albert Hall this week. More info on that show, including setlist here.

5) I can’t get over the fact that ‘Supersonic’ is over 13 years old.

Is Noel Finally Going Solo?

After a public declaration of his extreme disappointment with Liam’s vocals at the Brit Awards, Noel just might finally be on his merry way.

Contact Music reports: Noel trashed his brother Liam for what he considered a shoddy vocal performance. Apparently Noel found Liam was “too nasal” and “well off his best.”

Sources say that Noel then stated that Liam would have to rediscover his voice if Oasis are to continue.

While, normally, this could just be chalked up to regular Gallagher infighting, Noel stated in another recent interview that he thinks he’d be (surprise, surprise) quite the successful solo artist: “If I was a solo artist I’d be the biggest solo artist in the country, easy, no messing. I’d be bigger than ELVIS.”

It’s reassuring to see that after all these years he’s still as cocky as ever.

Noel v. Thom: It’s On!

This is really out of control already. As you could imagine, the following statement completely disgusts me:

Noel Gallagher: “Thom Yorke sat at a piano singing, ‘This is f**ked up,’ for half an hour. We all know that, Mr Yorke. “Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit their twiddling, going, ‘We’re all doomed,’ at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play CREEP. Get over it.” (Noel is referring to Thom’s ‘Black Swan’)

Thom’s retaliation:…..wow, man, like, crazy…….he is entering his David icke phase..

In somewhat related news, Jonny just posted on Dead Air Space about a new Japanese game, Nakiwo, that he’s obsessed with, check it out here!

Noel Gallagher Gives One Lucky Fan An Early Xmas Gift

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER delighted a fan last week (01DEC06) when he played an intimate gig in his living room. The WONDERWALL rocker treated BEN HAYES and 15 friends to a brief acoustic set after the fan won a competition on British radio station Radio 1. Gallagher performed HALF THE WORLD AWAY, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE and DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER before signing autographs in the fan’s Cheshire, England home. Hayes says, “It was just absolutely amazing. It was just unreal. “He was just sat in my lounge, playing three songs. It was just the best day of my life – so far.” (via ContactMusic)

If Thom Yorke or Jonsi from Sigur Ros came to my place to play a few songs in my living room… I’d….I’d… very very grateful. And probably pass out.
