Gabe Darling and Greg Jamie of O’death met at Purchase College where they both were film majors. It is a long awaited inevitability then that the duo have finally directed a video for their band. The hauntingly beautiful video for the first single, ‘Bugs,’ off the band’s new album, Outside, was filmed on the coast of Maine near Portland and Biddeford (where Greg and his wife own the venue The Oak and the Ax).
O’death are currently on tour across the country. Check their calendar for dates. Tonight they play Portland, Oregon with the fantastic Helado Negro.
Day four of SXSW, the last hurrah. SXSW is always a manically insane event but the sheer volume of bands and vendors and mobs of ‘fans’ just looking for a free drink was overwhelming this year. I mean, any year people end up getting tazed at a Death from Above 1979 show you got to admit is pretty crazy. And now we hear that SXSW is considering outlawing all non-official events next year? Um, am I mistaken or did the majority of these head injuries, barricade stormings and said tazing incidents not happen at official events? Also, you’re not the boss of me. And I never tazed anyone at any of my unofficial parties. (Read the article)
My first band of the day, and of SXSW, was Ponderosa at the Paste Party but I missed my photo opp. Ponderosa were good old fashioned, southern rock, a good start to the day and a nice introduction to Texas. One day I will write a very poignant article about death, circumstance and the band O’Death but today is not that day. Today is a Friday in midtown Manhattan with 19 inches of snow on the ground and right now, I am just so happy to be listening on-loop to a new O’Death track that I cannot wait for the muses to strike to share.
The band’s new single ‘Bugs’ is off of O’Death’s third album, Outside, set for release on April 19th. It is a rising, dark, yet hopeful, song- gentle and stirring. The band will be setting of on tour mid-March through April. Tour dates and an mp3 of ‘Bugs’ after the jump. (Read the article)
Thanks to Pattern Is Movement’s Chris Ward for making us hip to this great photo of O’Death and We Vs The Shark joining the band on stage in Athens, GA at The Secret Squirrel. Photo by Mike White (Deadly Designs) and info from drummer David on the O’Death site whom points out that the photo was taken two weeks ago, but better late than never we say!
Meanwhile, O’Death hit a city we love to get drunk in, Brussels, yesterday and roam the rest of Western Europe starting today.
