No pictures of us thanking everyone for coming before We Are Americana, but here are Matt and I introducing Band of York and making a special shout out to our better third, Jamie, in Scotland.

Band of York, rocked the house Sunday night. Everytime I see these guys, they get better and better.
Front man, Billy Jean.

As a special treat, B.O.Y. treated the crowd to their new song, ‘Miss Modernage.’ There’s miss thang herself behind the dj booth listening to her song.

Billy Jean is some hot shit.

Last night, my crew and I headed over to The Delancey for some experimental tunes as provided by The Warper Party including sets by nearly 20 performers! As described on Warper’s site, the night was billed as “2 Floors of Omnidigital DJs and Biomorphic Musicians.” Each act was given roughly a half hour to wow the crowd, using (mostly) their MacBooks and a projection screen. As you can guess, I was only able to fully appreciate 3 acts as events were going on upstairs and downstairs, and everywhere in between.
The first act I witnessed, downstairs, was a woman who goes by the moniker, YZ. Her shtick involved mostly slower beats, a la Junior Boys or the slower Ratatat songs. She strictly stuck to her laptop to spread the message. Her set was pretty much one extended non-stop song with various sections. It was definitely one of those acts you can appreciate but not really groove to. I guess in a way she was the lost member of Amiina.

Secondly, I saw Gemini Duo on the main level. Their whirlwind of sound is rather hard to translate into words. According to Gemini Thom, the sounds created last night were completely unplanned and unrehearsed. Although you couldn’t really tell. Everything melded together wonderfully to create a multitude of layers and effects. The duo enjoyed the use of a laptop and some sort of mini keyboard device that I wouldn’t have slightest clue what to call! They also threw in a bass, at times, for good measure.

Lastly, and definitely my favorite of the evening was Moldover. This guy was fantastic! He “specializes” in mixing super crazy pounding beats with classic 80s tracks. Finally drum-n-bass and The Eurythmics can be put into the same sentence! He also sampled Run DMC, Michael Jackson as well. A great video of the South By Southwesters dancing to his stuff can be seen on his MySpace page. Ace act.

Hopefully you know by now that THE DELANCEY IS WHERE YOU WILL BE THIS SUNDAY!! Our anniversary party featuring The Gaskets, Band Of York and We Are Americana (with a DJ set by Miss Modern Age) is just around the corner. See you there!!
The only thing I kept thinking while watching The Glass was that if I had my own record label, I would sign these guys in a heartbeat.
It’s like all the genius that came out of 80s Britpop/rock and late 90s electronica all wrapped up into one.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the band lists Everything But The Girl, Jesus and the Mary Chain and New Order as their biggest influences on their MySpace page.

The first words uttered at this show by the ever-delightful and cocky lead singer were something like ‘You better dance, you jaded New York motherfuckers’ in a heavy Irish accent. I fell in love with them pretty quickly.
I also adore the fact that there is a live DJ, working the turntables during the show. This gave it a very slight early Beastie Boys sound, which of course I dug.

Follow this link to hear their entire EP, I’m particularly fond of “Fourteen Again” and “Heard It All Before”, so if you are in a rush, I suggest you should check out those first.
Truly a great way to end a Thursday evening.

Arriving to the Delancey last night around 11pm post-Editors high, I was treated to the final song from the Glass-opening Republic Of Loose and it was fucking amazing!
Wearing their influences on both sleeves, try to imagine what would happen if George Clinton, The Scissor Sisters and Wu Tang Clan all entered the same room with hopes of making the best live show ever. Yes, this is what Republic Of Loose sounds like.
After researching a bit, it seems like they just opened for Snow Patrol over at the Bowery and already have some hardcore fans (many were in attendance last night, singing along with every SINGLE lyric).
Hopefully next time they are in the city, I get to catch their entire set!
