It’s amazing what turns up in the dark email when you get home and finally have a chance to catch up with it: like this animated science-fiction-space-adventure from the New Pornos, continuing the run of terrific videos from Together.
An especially nice touch is the subtitles (with translation on the youtube page). Also, the NPs have a totally sweet spaceship to ride around in.
Just when you thought The New Pornographers couldn’t make you love them anymore, check out the new video for their single ‘Moves’ off the album Together. Directed by Tom Scharpling of radio program The Best Show on WFMU and featuring a cornucopia of indie and not so indie comedians and fellow musicians including: Jon Wurster, Julie Klausner, Kevin Corrigan, Wyatt Cenac, Horatio Sanz, Ted Leo, John Hodgman, Bill Hader, Paul Rudd, Todd Barry, Donald Glover, Esther Crowe, Michael Lisk, Gabe Delahaye, Max Silvestri, Jay Norton, David Rosenblatt, Terre T., Anna Copacabana, Rob Cuthill, Brian Turner, Alex Scordelis and Gabe Delahaye (senior editor at Videogum). And to top it all off, the song is pretty darn great as well. Perfect for the Monday blues…

There is truth to the saying, “Out of sight, out of mind,” especially, and sadly, when it comes to disaster relief. When the BP oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico, the images of black sludge gushing out into the waters covering animals, killing plant-life and ruining the economy of an area that made its living on those waters was devastating. It’s all anybody could talk about around the water cooler and there were never-ending discussions of boycotting BP, BP having to change its name, etc. But in the past few months since the cap was finally put on the rig, it seems The Gulf has gone out of sight, out of mind.
Well, Oxfam and The New Pornographers are hoping to change that. They have teamed up to “help maintain awareness for the ever-developing struggle in the Gulf Coast region following April’s devastating oil spill and ensuing ecological crisis” by creating a new video for TNP’s song ‘Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk.’ The video is meant to help remind viewers that the aftermath of the spill is being felt in the region and that the communities whose livelihoods were affected still need our help.
