Opening last night’s epic Mogwai gig (and the remainder of their North American trek), were the band’s Scottish pals that comprise The Twilight Sad. In numerous interviews since the release of their debut album (2007′s Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters), TTS has described their sound as ‘folk + noise’. For those familiar with The Twilight Sad, it goes without saying that their recorded material and live show are entirely different from one another. The former is beautifully sedated while the latter is layered, rowdy & intense. Their fabulous forty minute set focused heavily on new material from their as-yet-untitled sophomore LP (due out this summer). These tunes are notably darker and more biting than their earlier work. They undoubtedly left me with heavily baited breath to hear them once again. Visit TTS on MySpace.

The Scottish band craze continues this week with the new buzzers, The Twilight Sad. I heard some of their stuff on MySpace and think it’s quite intriguing. Definitely worth checking out their FREE Fat Cat-headlining show at Pianos this Sunday at least. This will serve as the last night of their residency on Ludlow St.
The show is sponsored by Stereogum and we here at The Music Slut have a FREE CD to giveaway to the first person who e-mails us with the subject line ‘The Twilight Sad’.
Matt and I will be there Sunday, come say hi!
