Review: KT Tunstall, Tiger Suit

October 5th saw KT releasing her Tiger Suit upon the world. The Fife singer’s 3rd LP (if you aren’t counting KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza) has a lot of weight to bear: can Tunstall maintain the critical momentum that began with Eye to the Telescope and that she held on to with Drastic Fantastic, even if her 2nd record didn’t find favour with every reviewer?

KT’s Got A Tiger In Her Tank

Ping! What’s this arriving in the TMS inbox?

It’s upon us like a massive, booze-laden Tiramisu!!!

(In the face of a massive, booze-laden Tiramisu, I don’t know whether to say “Eek” or “Yum”. Probably “yum”.)

KT TUNSTALL VIDEO PREMIERE

This is our second KT Tunstall post in a week, it’s no secret we’re fans around here, so it is with a bit of a lump in our throat we say that the pint sized Scot’s first single ‘Fade Like a Shadow’ from her third solo album, Tiger Suit, is a slow burn. The song starts off predictable and even a bit boring. It doesn’t break any barriers and the much touted ‘dance beat’ isn’t as infectious as it should be. That being said, 2 minutes and 20 seconds into listening, we suddenly found ourselves paying attention when right after the bridge, the beat kicks in full force and suddenly out shines that repeating, rhythmic KT we first fell in love with- just with a glossier, studio sheen.

But you tell us, what do you think?

Suddenly We Saw

Five years ago, we began this blog with an entry entitled ‘Suddenly We See.’ Back then, we were two music loving students stuck in the music wilderness of St. Andrews, Scotland with the only live shows we had easy access to relegated to whatever the student union chose to book each term. Lucky for us, one of those acts was local girl, KT Tunstall. Together, Skye and I saw her play in the union with only a handful of other people and ever since then, through platinum albums, world-wide tours and Grammy nominations, she has been our wee Fife lass who made good.

KT Tunstall’s new album Tiger Suit will be released on Virgin Records on October 5th. KT is calling the music on the new album, “Nature Techno.” with a blending of organic instrumentation and dance beats. And in support of the album, KT is headed on a North American tour beginning on Halloween in Portland, OR and ending at Terminal 5 in New York City on December 1st.
