Last night marked the third time that I’ve seen Anni Rossi’s mesmerizing set. In spite of the fact that it only clocks in at 15 minutes, each & every track that she tackles is simply breathtaking. Watch Anni’s brand new video for ‘The West Coast’ here. Her magnificent debut album, Rockwell, is out now.

Slightly longer than March’s BK gig – equally as beautiful & heartbreaking.

Last night felt like a family reunion at Webster Hall. Our good friends, Pattern Is Movement, were opening for their friends, and one of our favourite bands, St. Vincent whom had Daniel “Hartbreaker” from The Physics Of Meaning playing violin. With those guys on stage and the dozen or so writers, photographers, bloggers and musicians we knew on the floor, we couldn’t help but feel all warm and snugly amongst the thousand cheering fans. Well, that and the place was packed and we were shvitzing.

I’ll be honest. Since their rise to fame a few years back, I haven’t been the biggest fan of PB&J. Sure, I adore all of their singles and find them to be quite quirky in their own right, but their full-lengths never struck a chord with me. With that in mind, I’ll be the first to admit that last night’s Webster gig (which focused heavily on Writer’s Block & their new LP: Living Thing) was remarkable, catchy, charming and highly enjoyable. In addition to their own material, the Swedish trio also broke into two covers to close their set. At first, they tackled The Stone Roses’ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ and then transitioned into a magnificent rendition of Joy Divison’s ‘Transmission’ (complete with Ian Curtis esque stage antics)! Flawless. Try your hardest to catch Peter Bjorn & John on the tail-end of their current North American trek.

Over the course of the last 12 months, I’ve seen Chairlift more times than I can possibly remember. However, I’ve never seen them bust out two brand new songs (both featured on the reissued Does You Inspire You LP) and a seemingly random yet amazing Pulp cover! Yes, the trio tackled ‘Babies’ (and I was in heaven). Chairlift will open for The Killers shortly. We’re giving away tix to see them on 5/10 in Brooklyn. Be sure to visit Chairlift on MySpace.

Other than Morrissey, I can think of no other acts (off the top of my head) that I’ve seen live in excess of ten times. Last night’s gig put The Walkmen into this elite category. Their Webster Hall set focused on a parade of new tracks but also included faves from each of their releases (with an emphasis on last year’s stunning opus, You & Me). Glorious! Be certain to catch The Walkmen on their upcoming trek with Kings Of Leon. Visit The Walkmen on MySpace.

Friday night marked my fourth time witnessing the magic that emanates from Australia’s deliciously dynamic duo. Last June, I saw them headline Bowery Ballroom. In April of ’07, I caught The Presets at Brooklyn’s Studio B. Way back in October of ’06, I experienced their majestic opening set for The Rapture. While each of these gigs has been downright electrifying, their most recent set easily stands out as the most captivating of the bunch. From the opening riffs of ‘Talk Like That’, it was painfully obvious that this show would go down as one of my most cherished of all time. Overwhelmingly fabulous! Be certain to catch The Presets on one of the remaining dates of their current North American trek. Visit The Presets at their official MySpace page.

I fell hard for The Golden Filter when the New York based electro act stunned a packed room at our joint SXSW 2009 showcase with Hype Machine Radio. Their Blondie meets Cut Copy meets Goldfrapp sound is positively addictive, as proven with their breakthrough debut single, ‘Solid Gold’, and their ridiculously arresting live cover of The White Stripes fave, ‘The Hardest Button To Button’. I’m hooked already (and their debut album won’t see daylight for a few more months!). Watch TGF’s official clip for ‘Solid Gold’ here. I strongly suggest that you visit The Golden Filter on MySpace.
